Colorway Story: Woodwell
We are naming all of our Shindig Bulky after Pittsburgh streets that are important to us in one way or another. The spotlight is on this beautiful skein to start, named "Woodwell" after potentially the most important street in all of the city (to me anyway). Woodwell Street is the place I grew up, where my childhood home sits, and where my parents still live. It's a small, one-block street nestled in the neighborhood of Squirrel Hill, right next to the Homewood Cemetery. Growing up, it was home to lemonade stands, block parties, sidewalk chalk, water gun fights, secret clubs, dance parties, and snow days. It was where I developed a taste for popsicles, tried my hand at riding a unicycle, and mastered the art of hop scotch. Also where I learned to parallel park to the soundtrack of my brother's ska band practicing on the third floor. Basically, it's one of my favorite places in the city, and I was very excited to put all of that inspiration to good use.
This colorway is a tonal burgundy, with touches of pink and deep brick red. All of our Shindig yarn will retain that white twist because of the cotton content, so it will be marled when knit. This color feels warm and home-y in a way that resembles Woodwell Street. To everyone who ever lived there, this street welcomes them back with open arms, recalling memories of long summer afternoons and frozen snowdays. This street is where I learned to be a human, and it would be really cool if this yarn is how some of you learned to be knitters! #fullcircle
